UAE Leads Global Dialogue on Responsible Tech Governance at GETS 2025

The second day of the Governance of Emerging Technologies Summit (GETS 2025) in Abu Dhabi concluded with a strong emphasis on the UAE’s leadership in shaping responsible, inclusive, and forward-looking technology governance. Hosted by the Advanced Technology Research Council (ATRC) in partnership with the UAE Public Prosecution, the summit attracted over 1,000 participants from more than 20 countries, including ministers, senior officials, technologists, legal experts, and business professionals.

HE Sarah bint Yousef Al Amiri, Minister of Education, highlighted the pivotal role of artificial intelligence in preparing future generations. She stressed the importance of integrating AI into educational curricula to equip students with the tools to contribute to societal advancement while establishing ethical frameworks to maximize AI’s benefits.

HE Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications, discussed the UAE’s early investment in building a national AI ecosystem that prioritizes flexibility, responsibility, and global collaboration. He emphasized that the summit serves as a platform for advancing policy dialogue and fostering a balanced international framework for governing advanced technologies.

HE Maryam bint Ahmed Al Hammadi, Minister of State and Secretary-General of the UAE Cabinet, spoke on embedding responsible technology governance into national policy as part of a broader commitment to shaping agile institutions and resilient societies.

The summit featured a variety of sector-focused sessions, including discussions on the role of AI in healthcare, civil defense, creative industries, and manufacturing. Experts explored how governance frameworks must evolve to support the deployment of AI in clinical environments, ensure data protection, and promote better patient outcomes. Meanwhile, the industrial transformation driven by smart manufacturing was also addressed, with speakers discussing safeguards for responsible and secure deployment.

The creative sector was another key area of focus, as speakers discussed the risks and rights associated with generative AI and digital content ownership. A panel featuring HE Sarah bint Yousef Al Amiri, along with representatives from Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence, Abundance Studio, and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Lameen Abdul-Malik, explored the integration of tech governance into education systems.

Other key discussions covered cybersecurity threats, the regulation of quantum computing, and the prevention of financial crimes in the digital age. Experts from ADIB, M-PESA, the UAE Space Agency, and CyberSage examined the evolving cross-border risks, while global organizations like INTERPOL, UNODC, and PwC stressed the importance of multilateral collaboration to combat digital crimes and close governance gaps. Christophe Legrand of PASQAL and Walter Pasquarelli of OECD.AI addressed the regulatory implications of quantum technologies and the societal shifts brought about by synthetic realities.

Youth participation was a central theme of the summit, with members from Dubai, Fujairah, Al Dhafra, and Umm Al Quwain Youth Councils actively contributing to the discussions. Their involvement underscored the summit’s commitment to fostering inclusive dialogue and intergenerational knowledge exchange.

The summit concluded with a strategic roadmap presented by Dr. Mohammed Abdullah Al-Ali, CEO of TRENDS Research & Advisory, and Stephane Timpano, CEO of ASPIRE. They shared insights from the summit’s deliberations and outlined steps for accelerating global coordination, ethical innovation, and institutional readiness for emerging technology governance.

The event wrapped up with a formal Gala Dinner hosted by the UAE Public Prosecution, celebrating collective achievements and reaffirming the UAE’s commitment to driving global conversations on advanced technologies with ethics and shared purpose.

The Governance of Emerging Technologies Summit (GETS), held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President and Deputy Prime Minister of the UAE, aims to position the UAE as a global leader in the responsible governance of emerging technologies, including AI, Web3, and Quantum Computing.
