This move ensures Starlink can meet the government’s target for launching commercial satellite internet services in Bangladesh.
The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has released a draft policy to simplify the telecom licensing system, reducing the structure to three main categories. The proposed reforms aim to streamline services, eliminate outdated licenses, and enhance BTRC’s autonomy in regulating the sector, pending public consultation and government approval.
Starlink has received approval from Bangladesh’s internet regulator for a satellite internet licence, pending final approval from the telecom ministry. If granted, Starlink could launch services in Bangladesh within months, significantly advancing the country’s digital connectivity and competing in the growing satellite internet market.
Robi Axiata has appointed M Riyaaz Rasheed as acting CEO, following the reassignment of Rajeev Sethi to a new role within the Axiata Group. Rasheed, the company’s CFO, had previously served as acting CEO in 2021. Robi is the second-largest mobile operator in Bangladesh, with 5.71 crore subscribers.

Despite regulations imposed on Grameenphone, only a few have been implemented. Industry leaders stress the need for reforms, collaboration, and investment to foster healthy competition.
